The MOVIE model of behaviour change

There are lots of different behaviour change models out there, but none of them quite align with my approach. The closest is probably COM-B – Capability + Opportunity + Motivation = Behaviour. But it doesn’t factor in the need for prompts/ for the desired behaviour to be visible. And I sort of feel capability and opportunity are so much of a given that they can be rolled up into a prompt that I find much more helpful: ease. Because it’s not going to be easy to do the thing if it’s not possible to do the thing.

So I made my own model that I work with – MOVIE. Motivation + Visibility + Ease-to-act. To achieve effective behaviour change, you need to be motivated to act (ideally in the moment you want to do it), the desired behaviour needs to be visible to you (again, ideally in the moment you want to do it), and the action needs to be as easy as possible. Ideally, easier to do than not do.
